Number 1 in the world
Osteria Francescana, Italy
ICA celebrates being the BEST in Africa with the BEST in the world!
Osteria Francescana was voted as the World’s Best Restaurant by a panel of almost 1,000 gastronomic experts worldwide! Chef Massimo Bottura’s tranquil restaurant in central Modena rightly stepped up to take the global crown, reflecting this inspiring chef’s ongoing creativity, immense skill, undimmed passion and fierce determination. The annual World’s Best Restaurant awards are known as the Oscars of the Culinary World! In the strive for constantly staying up to date with global, culinary trends to plough that knowledge and advances back to ICA students on campus in South Africa, ICA principal Letitia Prinsloo and Head of Faculty, Merizle Mitrovich, had the incredible opportunity to dine at Osteria Francescana in Modena recently.
Serving as local and international judge on various esteemed culinary panels, Letitia’s lifelong culinary experience undoubtedly greatly contributes to the Institute of Culinary Arts’ success and training excellence.
During their recent visit and inspiring conversation with the master himself, the message was clear: Massimo Bottura says cooking comes from the heart. Thát is precisely what makes the ICA stand out above the all rest. Filtering down from the principal, past all the staff members and ultimately to the students as tomorrow‘s great chefs. It is evident that the ICA training ethos strongly resonates with what Chef Bottura refers to in his book as Avia Pervia, an ancient Latin expression meaning:
“Impossible things become possible”
