‘TIS THE SEASON TO CELEBRATE!
Not only have ICA students traversed an extremely challenging year, but they did also so reaching exceptional levels of achievement and triumph!
The ICA maintains a 100% pass rate for City & Guilds International examinations written in 2020. More importantly, ALL students once again passed their international certification exams with either MERIT (67% – 79%) or DISTINCTION (80% – 100%)! An incredible accomplishment that acknowledges the hard work put in by both students and lecturers alike.
This means that ALL students in the class of 2020 now hold an internationally accredited certificate, recognized in more than 100 countries. At the ICA, it remains an important aspect of the school’s course offerings to provide students with the opportunity to obtain an international certificate in conjunction with their ICA diploma. As a global leader in skills development, City & Guilds have helped develop skills for growth for over 140 years, ensuring that this leading assessment and accreditation group continue to protect and promote the standard of vocational education around the world.
ICA is one of only a few institutions that still uphold the level of culinary education required by City & Guilds in South Africa. For several years, ICA Head of Faculty and Senior Pâtisserie Lecturer, Chef Merizle Mitrovich, has served as External City & Guilds Pâtisserie Examiner. Her vast industry experience and consistent strive for excellence has been utilized by City & Guilds through her inclusion and responsibility of revising and improving the City & Guilds International Curriculum world-wide.
Honouring Chef Mitrovich’s upkeep of curricular standards, she was also awarded a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence in 2017, just a few months after the ICA received the City & Guilds Centre of Excellence Award as the best culinary training school in Africa and one of the top 3 globally. The ICA remains the only facility in the country to receive two gold accolades from City & Guilds and we are immensely proud of the exceptional standard of achievement by all our students once more this year!
Due to the high standards to which they are trained, ICA chefs continue to express their unique abilities and skills of being persistent, patient and persevering in order to acquire constant perfection, never settling for anything but the best. Over and above an esteemed ICA diploma that is widely respected in the industry, graduates are also equipped with an internationally recognized qualification so they can spread their wings and join their predecessors in the global culinary arena.
The ICA wishes all our students, parents, guardians, staff, alumni and industry partners a peaceful and joyous festive season. Although celebrations may be approached differently this year, our commitment to culinary training excellence remains unchanged. We look forward to welcoming our new intake of promising first-year chef students in January 2021 and eagerly await the successes the new year may hold.
