Success Beyond the Spotlight

In a country where the most recently published, official youth unemployment rate continues to hover at alarmingly high levels, young South Africans are faced with daunting questions about their futures:
Will I be able to find work?
Will I be able to make a living?
Will my skills be relevant in the real world?
At the ICA, our answer to these concerns is clear and proven: with ICA training, discipline and creativity, employment need never be a concern.
As one of Africa’s most respected chef training institutions, ICA has always focused on offering more than just culinary instruction. Our graduates are equipped with world-class kitchen skills, paired with an entrepreneurial mindset, business knowledge and a broad skill-set that positions them for sustainable careers in the ever-evolving global food industry. ICA alumni are not only employable — they are empowered to create their own employment and employment for others.
The vitally important combination of theory, practical skill, and creative thinking means ICA graduates can take on a wide variety of roles after graduating, whether in formal employment or by launching their own ventures. ICA alumni work as executive chefs, restaurateurs, pastry artisans, food stylists, content creators, consultants, recipe developers, educators, marketing specialists, event coordinators, concept developers, wine professionals and much more. Many run successful side-hustles while working full-time, or use their ICA training to start businesses they can run from home or online.
The idea that there is only one path to success in the culinary industry is outdated. ICA graduates understand that a career in food can be as flexible and multi-faceted as they want it to be.
This adaptability is one of the great strengths of an ICA education, especially in a country where job security is never guaranteed.
When work is scarce, ICA-trained professionals create it.
When industries shift, ICA graduates pivot.
And when opportunities arise, ICA alumni are already prepared to excel.
At the ICA, we believe that as long as people need to eat, skilled chefs will always be in demand. But we go one step further. We train our students to think like entrepreneurs, to act with integrity, and to lead with innovation. The ICA experience is built on a foundation of creativity, discipline, hard work and excellence — values that translate into job creation, professional credibility, and lifelong relevance.
Unemployment might be a national crisis, but it does not define your future, especially when you hold an internationally accredited chef’s qualification. Our mission at the ICA is to ensure that every student who passes through our doors is equipped with the skills, insight and confidence to build a successful, fulfilling career — whether in South Africa or abroad.
The opportunities are endless. The world needs chefs. But more importantly, the world needs chefs who are ready for anything.
